Facing Death or Grief: Empower Yourself to Face Everyday Challenges

Overcoming everyday challenges

Facing grief or death can help make everyday challenges seem a bit more bearable. It’s not the easiest thing but it helps put things into perspective. For example, with Christmas and the end of the year just around the corner, lots of people will be feeling the heaviness of the year just past. Disappointment, anger, fear, sadness, grief- are just some of the strong feelings that you may be experiencing. Personally I’ve been feeling a lot of disappointment recently as I’ve reflected on the year gone past. But when I consider the reality of grief and death and how everything can change in a moment, helps make whatever disappointment I am feeling seem like a much smaller issue. It is not easy, but using grief and/or death as a way to put things into perspective is truly useful.

Practical tips to facing daily challenges

If you are having a hard time shaking off some heavy emotions, here are some practical things you can do to help:

  • Introspect. Ask yourself, “Why do I feel this way?” Become aware that this feeling is not you.
  • Talk to someone you love. Reaching out and giving thanks or talking about your emotions can help lessen the burden you are carrying. Making a connection with someone else is also a good way to warm the heart.
  • Spend some time outdoors in nature.
  • Do some exercise. Go for a walk or run. Swim, hike, or play some sports- work your muscles. It will be a sure way to boost your mood.
  • Practice gratitude. Make a list of things you are thankful for.

I hope you find these tips useful.
